Hi friends, it’s Sarah here doing a little Summer Break Reflection: This summer, the UK treated us to a mixed bag of weather. At times, it felt like the only suitable word to describe the season was ‘damp.’ Despite the unpredictable weather, summer still brought opportunities to savour lighter meals, longer days, and for those fortunate enough, the chance to escape on a holiday or vacation.
My 10-day getaway to Spain was a welcome break from my usual routine. Sun-soaked days, the freedom to wear different, often lighter, clothes, and the icing on the cake – delectable fresh food. Unbelievably, for the first time ever, I returned home weighing less than when I left! And here’s the kicker: I didn’t deprive myself in the slightest.
I indulged in the occasional ice cream, enjoyed a daily beer, and dined out frequently. So, you may wonder, what made the difference, and how did I manage it?
It was all about choice. I opted for fresh, wholesome foods. I chose smaller portion sizes, kept myself well-hydrated, limited sweet treats to a minimum, and even squeezed in some laps in the pool. My menu featured fish, nuts, and plenty of fruit—all foods that I genuinely now relish.
I savoured every bite, and the most crucial element was that it was all by choice. Never once did I feel obligated or restricted.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: lifestyle changes are effective, and your lifestyle is something you carry with you wherever you go, even on vacation.
As summer break draws to a close, despite the current heatwave gracing the UK, it’s an excellent time to reflect on your choices. What will your lifestyle look like as we transition into autumn or fall? Sarah x
